loose ties and unfinished sentences
We are officially in the last month of the year. I don't know about you but this has been a year of completion for me. Completing loose ties, broken relationships (healing some and letting go of others), and unfinished sentences.
Unfinished sentences - the ones with the comma on the end. Where we took a moment to pause and somehow never returned. Maybe we got lost, distracted, or simply could not find the courage to say what was in our heart.
Unfinished sentences loom like a broken street lamp on a rainy night. Not the one that just went out and the bulb needs replaced. The ones that hang on by the end of the wire with a spark of life still left in it.
At any moment it can fall, gusts of winds rock it back and forth, drops of rain spark at the open wires. It's no longer fully lit yet its life not completely done. In this unfinished state - the pending doom causes anxiety yet the spark that remains continues to light the way.
Unfinished sentences, the things left unsaid, the feelings never shared, the betrayal never forgiven, the pain never released.
Silent yet powerful have a way of holding so much power for the oppressors of its expression.
Power in its release.
Freedom in its expression.
Peace in its completion.
Now I know why the caged bird sings.
